Reasons for Building Your Own Computer

September 4, 2009

In today’s fast-moving and always changing world of computers, it can be difficult to pin-point exactly which computer is best for you. But what if there was a way you could customize one, fitting all of your needs exactly, and costing only a fraction of the price? This option exists – build your own computer. It’s actually very simple, and very cheap compared to buying something at a store or online, and in the end, you’ll not only be happy, but you’ll feel accomplished.

So what are the advantages of building your own computer? Well, first and foremost, it’s much cheaper. Most computers you would buy in a store take the basic cost of the parts, throw in a cheap mouse and keyboard, possibly a cheap screen too, and raise the price. You might be over paying hundreds for a machine that you could build for only half of the price. Another great reason to build your own computer is that you don’t need to search for something similar to what you want, but rather, you can make something that fits your exact needs. Are you interested in graphic design? Gaming? Web browsing? No matter what it is, you can build a machine to fit your needs perfectly.

There are, however, downsides to building a computer as well. One of the parts you have ordered may have come DOA (dead on arrival), in which case you’d simply return it in exchange for another one. If you haven’t done your research, you may have trouble installing the hardware. These are all very easy to fix, however. There are more positives than negatives when it comes to building your own computer.

All in all, building your own computer proves to be not only cheaper, but fun, exciting, and very rewarding in the end. There are some amazing things you can do if you really want to put forth the effort, and nothing will ever beat the feeling you get when you turn on your new, self-built computer, for the first time.
